Sleeping Babies

So Keeton started climbing out of his crib again, even after we took it from the lowest setting to the floor, little stinker. So now he is sleeping in a twin bed at 19 months old. This causes a little problem with Austin's routine however. Austin doesn't like to sleep alone, so Ryan or I will lay down on the spare bed while he falls asleep, well now that Keeton is using that bed, that causes a problem. So for the first hour of naptime today they were both sleeping in the same twin, and then Austin finally relented to sleeping in his own bed. I took a video because it is quieter than taking a picture, and after 1 1/2 hrs of getting the kids to sleep I did not want to wake them up! But I had to document this momentus occasion. I am already dreading bed time though, wish me luck!

Working Out

So my Mom came a couple weekends ago to spread her positive attitude and zest for life. Along with which I went running with her, and decided I LOVE it! So since then I have decided I will run a 5K with Jolene and go from there to see if maybe I would want to do a 10K or something. But I have been running outside as often as I can, with my supportive husband (who watches the kiddos when he is home)at my side. I am excited about this new hobby, and found some new workout clothes at Old Navy today. Nothing gets me jazzed about working out like new workout clothes!

Avocado Salad

Avocado Salad

1/2 C. chopped, peeled cucumber
1/3 C. chopped yellow bell pepper
6 roma tomatoes, diced
2 T. finely chopped sweet onions
1 T. minced fresh basil, or 1 tsp. dried basil
1 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp olive oil
Dash of garlic powder
1 medium ripe avocado, peeled and chopped
Feta cheese

In a small bowl, combine the first 8 ingredients, cover and refridgerate for 15-20 minutes. Add Avocado. Toss gently. Sprinkle with Feta cheese. Serve immediately on lettuce lined plates.

Every year my family gets our favorite recipes together and scrapbooks a few of our favorite. Lacey added this one to the book this year and it is super yummy, and very lifestyle change friendly, so enjoy!

Today is my Mom and Michael's Birthdays, and I just wanted to make a little post about how awesome they are. My Mom has always been an inspiration to me, she is always striving for something better. Whether it is with her education and getting her bachelors degree at 43 or raising money for cancer research with Relay for Life. She has been doing Triathlon's for about a year and a half and is now training to run the Salt Lake Marathon in April. She is so health conscious and always giving me encouragement to be healthy and happy. She is a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend and I am so glad to have her in my life. I love you Mom!

As for Mike, what a great kid. He is adored by my kids, and is a hard worker and a great friend and brother. Not to mention a hottie! I hope he keeps his head on straight so I have an awesome sister-in-law one day. Plus he is like the best player of Catch Phrase ever! Here is to more phone crackers and War's where all the people died.

Skiing at Brighton

This was my second ski experience, and it was awesome! My Mom has been trying to take me for a couple years now, and finally the planets aligned and we were able to go. Ryan was a little over confindent in his skills and ate it a couple of times, Melissa and Mike were boarding fools, and my Mom is in the best shape of her life and showed us all up on the slopes. All in all it was awesome weather for most of the day and we all had a great time, I can't wait to go again.
This experience reminded me of the first time I went skiing when I was about 17 and I went with my girlfriends from High School (which I am still really close to). First let me prefece this story by saying that Adrienne, K.A., and Lindsay had taken ski lessons several winters growing up, and were excellent instructors on how to snow plow. However after one or two runs down the bunny hill, they were confident in my and Emily's skills and took us up to the back mountain, a black diamond run. It was quite foggy and we could only see about 5 feet in front of you. So I would snow plow for about 5 feet, and call out for my friends ahead of me, who were patiently waiting, then snow plow another 5 feet, taking time to fall on my butt about every 10 feet. But it must not have totally scarred me for life because unlike Emily I skiied the rest of the day and decided to try it again. Thanks guys! Love Ya!

Ryan worked over Christmas this year, so we went to Utah over the 31st and spent time with our families there. Ryan's Mom and Dad had scooted off to Vegas to see their newest grandson, so we had just a brief visit with them. So this is at my Dad and Karilynn's house, Tammy and Steve came over there and we had a big Christmas dinner together and presents with the babies. It is so great to have everyone together this year.

Christmas Day!

Well we had a wonderful Christmas, Ryan was home with us all day, so we were so lucky. The kids had a great time playing with all their new toys and opening presents. That is by far the best part about it, is watching them. Austin got a train table from Santa, which required many people to get everything put together, but it all worked out and he loved it. Keeton was the early riser and started playing with the trains immediately. This was our first Christmas away from our parents so we got to do all of our own family traditions. Austin and I made Santa gingerbread men on Christmas Eve, he opened the new Christmas movie for him and Keeton and of course the P.J.'s. We had a chocolate orange in each stocking, and instead of life saver books, we had gummie life savers. Later on Shelley and Steve and family came over for a Ham dinner with great appetizers, cheesy potatoes and peppermint cheesecake for dessert. What a wonderful day!

Ryan was working up until about 11pm on Christmas Eve, so early on in the evening the kids and I went over to Jolene's parents for dinner and presents. I brought the kids Christmas P.J.s over and we opened them there. We also had yummy prime rib and ham and many warm holiday exchanges. Jolene's whole family has been so wonderful to us since we moved here, constantly inviting us the Sunday dinner and other family functions. I am so grateful to their family and all they do for us.

Austin is growing up so fast. His potty training is going very well, and he went in Church today, which I was very excited about. I am also just plain excited for Christmas. Mostly to see Austin and Keeton's faces as they come out of their rooms on Christmas morning at all of the presents. This is the first year that Austin is excited about Christmas and Santa, so I think he will be the most fun to watch. I just love these boys!

Model Train Show

Jolene and I took the boys to a Model Train Show, talk about old boys and their toys. It was mildly impressive to the layman. I am sure if I was a model train enthusiest it would have been amazing, but needless to say the boys thought is was great. They had replicas of the surrounding towns to Grand Junction, with the mines, and tunnels, and mountains. Then we took them outside to see the old rail cars. What a couple of cheesers. Ty and Austin will sit at Ty's train table and play for hours. They are so cute, they might as well be blood brothers.

Babysitter

Do you remember that part on Vegas Vacation where Cousin Eddie pulls out the babysitter so Kathryn and him can go into town? It is a pot of rattlesnakes for the kids to round up, "that will keep them busy for hours". Well this is my somewhat safer version of my babysitter, opening the child proofed cupboards and looking the other way as all my tupperware becomes strewn about the house.

Keeton has finally cut his top right molar tooth. I am so glad, I hoping the rest of the tooth comes through soon, he is so slobbery and grumpy!

We all went to Goodwood Barbeque for the big ole celebration. We also noted my birthday and my Mom, Karilynn's birthdays this month as well. We pitched in and bought Melissa a Bosch, she was quite excited, and made a batch of bread the next morning.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both, I wrap if I can but some things just plain require a cute bag.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial. This was supposed to be the year we had a real tree, in fact we were going to hike up the mountains, Grizzwold style and chop one down, but it just didn't work out.

3. When do you put up the tree? Well since we are actually having Christmas at my house this year I put the entire tree up, ornaments and all. On Dec. 17th. And be grateful for that. My kids have already distroyed it and half the ornaments, and we are only 3 days into it. I haven't put my entire tree since before Austin was born. Last year I had a tree and 3/4 of the tree had lights, I am so ghetto.

4. When do you take the tree down the tree? This year,probably the 26th. If I have any ornaments left by then.

5. Do you like egg nog? Love it! In icecream, plain, as french toast batter, whatever.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? My Grandpa Tagg made my sister Melissa and I a Barbie doll house, and that was awesome.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? No, but I want the Fisher Price one, that way I don't have to worry about it so much.

8. Hardest person to buy for? My In-Laws, they seem to have everything!

9. Easiest person to buy for? Austin, hands down, that kid is going to be so spoiled this year.

10.Mail or email Christmas cards? Um, I am embarrased to say neither this year, maybe there is still hope for e-cards.

11.Worst Christmas gift you ever received? My cute grandma bought us underwear one year, practical, but not my favorite gift ever.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Elf, Santa Clause 2, The Grinch with Jim Carrey, and White Christmas with Bing Crosby.

13. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yeah I have...

14. Favorite thing to eat on Christmas? Chocolate oranges from my stocking.

23. What do you want for Christmas this year? This really cute brown coat from Old Navy. I know, Brown, surprise, surprise. My closet is so boring.

24. Christmas morning tradition- Muffins and hot chocolate for breakfast. Last year my sister Lacey made these amazing muffins, mine will be out of a box this year. I have never been able to have home made muffins turn out, so you gotta stick with what works.

25. What do you/did you leave out for Santa? Milk and cookies of course. This year I am going to make gingerbread men on Christmas eve with the boys to leave out for Santa.

Visit from Grandma and Papa Pletter

My First Thanksgiving

Well it was the first year I hosted Thanksgiving, everyone contributed and the food was great. My Dad and Mom did the turkey and the ham, Shelley, Jolene, and I did the trimmings. It was cozy with 19 of us in our little home, but we were very glad everyone was there to celebrate with us. The kids enjoyed the olives the most. Keeton and Hallie have demonstrated for us. We had a great dinner, and I am excited for Christmas dinner as well. Maybe I will be brave enough to do the turkey by myself!

After the dinasour museum we took the kids across the street and had the yummiest mexican food since moving over to Grand Junction. We ate at El Tapatio in Fruita, and have been back there since. The kids really enjoyed the quesidillas.

So the last time Ryan had his 2 weeks off, we took the boys to the Dinasour museum in Fruita. It was so fun. We took Ty Daniel too, he is practically Austin's older brother anyways. They loved it. There was a platform to stand on that simulated an earthquake, and made lots of noise. There was a place for them to make dinasour footprints in the sand. They had a large dinasour that moved and made the appropriate noises. All in all it was very kid impressive.

New York

After a remission in his cancer, it came back and this time was in his brain. My Grandpa Thorn died on October 22nd. So Melissa, me, my Dad, and Karilynn; flew back to Rochester, New York for the funeral. Here is a couple of pics with my Grandma, and Keeton. We miss him a great deal.
This is my Dad's Aunt Patti and Uncle Rolly. My Grandpa Thorn's sister, at her home in Newark. We were able to visit with them for an afternoon, amongst the other funeral functions.

About an hour east of our house is the Grand Mesa. So in October when my Mom, Mike, and Melissa came out to visit we took a picnic up there and had fun walking on the paths and taking pictures. It is so beautiful up there. Especially when all the leaves are changing.

Austin is at the stage in life when he wants to be helping with whatever I am doing. So as long as I can find a way to include him in my activities, he is a pretty good kid. His favorite things to help me with are, the dishes, vacuuming (he has to hold on the handle with me), and taking a spray bottle and a rag and wiping down whatever he fancies.

So my Mom, Tammy came over to visit us this weekend. The boys and I were already in Utah and rode over to Colorado with her. We had a great weekend, we went to the park by our house, which has a nice long track that goes around a couple soccer fields, and several swingsets. So we would jog around the track a few times and let the kids out to play at the end. This has become part of our morning routine to wake up and go to the park. We also canned some of my Grandpa and Grandma Tagg's yummy zucchini relish. It is a family favorite, and it was my first time making it. I hope it tastes as good as theirs. We are so stingy with the jar that we get, trying to make it last as long as we can, now we don't have to be, since we made 8 jars this size, and I fully plan on making another batch. We had such a great time with Grandma Tammy here that when we went outside to leave for the park this morning, Austin asked me where Grandma's car was, I told him that she had gone home already, and he seems ok with that response until we got to the park, and every woman that jogged by he asked where Grandma was, he is so cute. We love our Grandma so much! P.S. She is the one that took this picture, Ryan thought we should make it a 4 tier and put Keeton on top of Austin, luckily Keeton was sleeping so we didn't have to try it!

Austin did the cutest thing yesterday. My mom has a big teddy bear that she gave to Austin, when you push on the bears tummy it has a recording that plays of my Mom saying, "Austin I Love You". So he was pushing the bear's tummy and then he would say back to it, I Love Yoooou! He did that over and over about 10 times, I could hear him upstairs playing with it.

I was having dinner with some of my girlfriends last week, the group that all had babies this year, you have seen their babies on this very blog. Anyway we were commenting on the funny things that entertain kids, and how they are usually not the expensive toys that we buy them. For Zane it was one of their old keyboards. So I told them that Keeton's favorite toy is Austin. Austin will pull his binkie out of his mouth so he can make him laugh.

This was last week when the weather was a little nicer. Believe it or not, they both love to go on walks. Although this picture doesn't reflect it. Yesterday I took the boys on a walk to my Dads for a BBQUE and it was a little brisk out. So I bundled them up in jackets, hats and blankets. When we got to the house, I had everyone come outside to look at the cutest boys in the whole world. You would have thought I had yelled, FIRE! Because everyone jumped up from the dinner table and ran to the back door to look. They are so loved!

Our Eternal Family

I realize this post isnt in chronological order, but I wasn't into blogging when this event happened. On Ryan and my 6th Anniversary, Nov. 3rd. We were sealed as an eternal family in the Mt. Timpanogos temple. It was one of the happiest days of my life, and a goal that I have had for a long time. We took 10 day old Keeton and 2 yr old Austin into the house of the Lord to be sealed for time and all eternity, and it was one of the happiest days of our life.

2. How long have you been together? 10 years
3. Dating/Engaged/Married? 8-10 years ( we took a couple of breaks)/7 weeks/ 6 years on Nov 3rd.

You or your man?
1. Who eats more? It is hard to say right now, probably the 13 month along pregnant one, and then there is breast feeding; so Ryan may never catch up.
2. Who said “I love you” first? Ryan, It was when we were first dating. I was 15 and he was 17. We were on our way back from a group date in Park City and we were holding hands in the car. Then he drew I love you in the palm of my hand.
3. Who weighs more? Ryan, even at 13 months pregnant.
4. Who sings better? Me
5. Who’s Older? Ryan
6. Who’s smarter? It depends on what the topic is, we are both equally gifted in the I.Q. area
7. Who’s temper is worse? For sure me, I am much more high strung, so Ryan is a good balance for me, he keeps me in check.
8. Who does the laundry? Most of the time it is me, but every once in a while I will come home from work and he will have done a few loads and cleaned the rest of the house.
9. Who does the dishes? We have been about 50/50 on that one lately. What a good hubby I have!
10. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I sleep on the right, no matter where we are.
11. Whose feet are bigger? For sure Ryan's
12. Whose hair is longer? Mine
13. Who’s better with the computer? We are both computer retarded, but we get around
14. Who mows the lawn? We have only ever had a lawn when I have been pregnant, so Ryan all the way.
15. Who pays the bills? Mostly me
16. Who cooks dinner? 98% me, I love to cook. But Ryan makes awesome shakes, french toast, and BBQing.
17. Who drives when you are together? Ryan. If I drive, it drives Ryan crazy and then he drives me crazy with his comments.
18. Who pays when you go out to dinner? Me, no wonder he keeps me around.
19. Who’s the most stubborn? Me for sure, It is a good thing I pay for dinner.
20. Who is the first one to admit when they’re wrong? We are both pretty good at that.
21. Whose parents do you see more? Mine, we live closer to them; and have the only grandchild on this side.
22. Who kissed who first? He kissed me, after our first "official" date when he took me to Homecoming.
23. Who asked who out? He asked me out.
24. What did you do? We went to Homecoming at Orem High, go Tigers!
25. Who’s taller? Ryan, I like em talk dark and handsome.
26. Who has more friends? Me, but only by a few.
27. Who is more active? It probably depends on the day, we are both active with our jobs.
28. Who has more siblings? Ryan has 3 sisters and 2 brothers. I have 1 sis, 1 bro. and 3 step sis, and 2 step bro. I am the one with the all american family.
29. Who wears the pants in the relationship? We try to take turns. It is my turn right now.
